New Presidential Priorities
October 13, 2008
While "Critical Cargoes" hardly considers a single issue to be key in the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, it does endorse the position taken by the National Industrial Transportation last week on defining plans for new freight infrastructure. League president, Bob Carlton, sent out a letter to both John McCain and Barack Obama asking them to do just that. Over the course of the campaign, he notes, neither candidate has stated " what measures its administration would consider, or the priorities it would establish in this area." But where do they begin? Our seaports are underfunded, our highways and bridges antiquated, and our air cargo facilities underutilized. If the candidates do finally chose to articulate a policy, we would encourage them to not only state which areas will get the most attention...but when.
