Focus on your supply chain...or beware!

Old news! You have sourcing agents coming out of your ears in Shanghai but what I fail to see is a true end to end solution that adresses the issues raised in your post. True price per part aspirations will never be acheived unless the total cost of supply chain is managed well.

This was a good article, it demonstrates how in the changing global market the supply chain has to managed on many levels. Outside of paying for premium service or capabilities, what are some other cost effective alternatives? Could hedging certain commodities or developing a more sophisticated forecasting system to maintain a JIT system and work with China or other Asian countries? I think your post on 3PL's is very accurate. The company I work for deals in international logistics, tracking and accountability. We rely on several partners to maintain our supply chain. Good Post.
