Going Green? Look to the West

August 22, 2008

Southern California — long known as the nation’s "smog belt" — is proving to be a testing ground for a great many new initiatives associated with greening the supply chain and clearing the air. State taxes and independent port actions introduced by the Los Angeles and Long Beach are capturing headlines in the mainstream press as well, but lost in those reports is any mention of the impact legislation and rule-making will have on the shipper. It is becoming increasingly expensive to do business in this state, and we can only hope that shippers who ride out this wave of change will be at a competitive advantage once more effiicient and sustainable programs are put in place.
