Unfinished Business

Now that the nation has chosen a new president, it’s time for the outgoing Chief and Congress to get on board with a plan to fund the nation’s ailing transportation infrastructure. That, at least, is the position taken by the National Industrial Transportation League, which is urging law makers in the "lame duck" session this month to consider passage of a new stimulus package.Says NITL president Bruce Carlton: "Today we have an enormous backlog of deferred maintenance, deteriorated and crumbling assets, choking bottlenecks, and system-wide congestion." Additionally, he said, this has resulted in our country falling "far behind in providing the means to move goods more efficiently."
