Russia: No longer bearish on trade?

July 8, 2009

The G8 summit in Italy gets underway just after a very positive meeting between  Russian and U.S. leaders. According to Konstantin Kosachev, head of the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee, there has been considerable agreement on how to restructure the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Of more interest to shippers, however, is the news that the two nations are working to strengthen business contacts while looking for common ground on the most complicated foreign policy issues.
Dmitry Medvedev has said President Medvedev and President Obama — who has concluded his official visit to Moscow — addressed The Russian-American Business Forum on Tuesday.
The Russian leader said he “sincerely hoped for the success of the dialogue” between the two countries. “Critical Cargoes” echoes that sentiment, and trusts that meaningful trade agreements will come as a consequence.
