What Am I Missing?
Help me please. I look at what is happening in Washington D.C. and have to ask: What am I missing?
Presently, our legislators are working non-stop on a health care bill whose main provisions start to kick in around 2013. In fact, we’re told that this legislation affecting one – sixth of our economy must be passed in two weeks. Meanwhile…
SAFETEA-LU, the current transportation bill, expired September 30, 2009. Congress passed a three month extension, but the Highway Trust Fund is basically insolvent right now. This is a legitimate jobs creating bill, but Rep. Oberstar, (D-Mn) the Chairman of the Transportation Committee, recognizes that the White House has other priorities.
The President takes a day off to sell the International Olympic Committee on having Rio, I mean Chicago, host the 2016 Olympics. Meanwhile…
Our commander in Afghanistan, General McChrystal, issues a report in August 2009 which states that we either deploy 40,000 additional troops, or run the risk of losing this conflict. With casualties mounting and the recent deaths of 10 soldiers, you would think they might “fast track” this issue. But we still don’t have an answer from the President.
In February, 2009, we had to hurry up and pass an 800 Billion dollar stimulus package or else unemployment would go above 8%. The Democrats passed the bill. Today unemployment is almost 10%, and almost certainly headed higher. Meanwhile…
Congress pushes for Cap and Trade legislation and the Employee Free Choice Act. Most knowledgeable economists predict that this legislation will kill millions of jobs and drive the unemployment rate even higher.
And I haven’t even begun to discuss:
This country’s disastrous foreign policy, or policies, which threaten to destroy the value of the dollar and its status as the world’s reserve currency, or the irony of the French lecturing us about the need to seriously consider the Iranian threat.
I could go on and on.
Now for the reader participation part of this Blog. If you think this President or Congress is doing good job, I will resist the urge to ask: ARE YOU INSANE? Instead, please tell me: What am I missing?
And before you respond: Blame Bush, remember: Bush has been out of office for over 9 months so the items for which he can be blamed is growingly increasingly smaller. If you respond, please cite facts.

At what point will this administration own this economy and prolonging this recession? If not now, when? If not ever, why?

Concur, if we start voting all parties out for the next decade do you think the politicians might remember their job is to serve the people?

You haven't missed much. I appreciate your comment about blaming G II. I'm tired of hearing the mantra we inherited a mess. Those who say that have been in office for 10 months and the Congress longer than that.
We as a nation are on course to beome a third worls country, becuase the priorities are not right. Fix the infrastructure. Stop printing money and borrowing from countries who are not really our friends and cannot wait to kick us.
If our firends are talking about trading commodities by replacing the dollar as the reserve currency, then you can be there is a plan to do so soon. The dislocation for the American consumer will be catastrophic.

Michael you missed very little..I mean you could add the beliefs his staff have that reveal the true agenda.
There is currently a virtual monopoly in the government and media of liberal viewpoints. They are trying to pass as many pieces of legislature that they can before Americans hopefully wake up and say what in the heck happened to our country. The problem is both of our political parties in this country just tow the party line and not their constituents’. Where are representatives that live up to that title!!

I’m with you. The White House is on a roll (and not a good one). I think it’s funny Chicago didn’t get the Olympic bid. Imagine an even more corrupt event. Ugh!
