The ISM reported that the index it uses to measure the manufacturing sector—known as the PMI—was 55.3 in June, up 1.8 percent from May’s 53.5. May marked the first month in 2011 that the PMI did not exceed 60. The General Rate Increase will be 6.9 percent and covers non-contractual shipments in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, according to UPS. It also applies to minimum charge, LTL rates, and accessorial charges. UPS added that shippers will be able to view and download the new rates at http://www.ltl.upsfreight.com
Responding to shipper concerns, the West Coast MTO Agreement (WCMTOA) announced it will postpone until August 1 its planned adjustment to the Traffic Mitigation Fee at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
