Class I railroad carriers Norfolk Southern and KCS recently rolled out a new joint intermodal service between central Mexico and the southeastern region of the United States entitled TMX.
The Norfolk, Virginia-based carrier reported first quarter net income of $410 million—or $1.23 per share—which was up 26 percent compared to the first quarter of 2011 and ahead of Wall Street expectations of $1.12 per share.

While United States-based natural gas production continues to flourish, with domestic production expected to increase 41 percent by 2020 and current prices at a ten-year low, transportation carriers remain slow to embrace natural gas for various reasons despite its myriad benefits, according to data from PLS Logistics Services, a Pittsburgh-based non-asset 3PL focused on the industrial sector.
The price per gallon of diesel dipped 4.2 cents to $4.085 per gallon. This is the steepest weekly drop since prices fell 6.6 cents the week of December 19 from $3.894 to $3.828 per gallon.

March new orders and net orders hit 22,038 units and 20,025 units, respectively, according to ACT.
FTR officials said that the February SCI number reflects a still-strengthening economy, which is reducing the available amount of transportation capacity for shippers.
