Dry van truckload carrier USA Truck has expanded its intermodal menu, announcing it recently inked a long-term contract with Class I railroad carrier BNSF Railway to move private 53-foot domestic intermodal containers.

As Washington prepares for yet another revision to the truck driver hours of service rules—and lawyers on both sides hunker down for what they say is yet another inevitable court fight—the battle lines are drawn.
Truck sizes and weights have largely been frozen at the federal level since 1993. Now the industry and a coalition of shipping interests are again testing the waters in Washington to see if now might be the time to take another look at that emotional and politically charged issue.

Volumes on United States railways were up year-over-year for the week ending August 14, with intermodal hitting its highest levels of the year, according to data from the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
