Late last week, Congress passed House passed the Airline Safety and Federal Aviation Administration Extension Act of 2010, which will extend FAA’s funding through September 30.

The Institute of Supply Management reported today manufacturing activity in July was basically flat compared to June.
Trucking tonnage saw its second decline since February, with the American Trucking Associations (ATA) reporting that its advance seasonally adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index decreased 1.4 percent in June.
Railroad volumes for the week ending July 24 were down year-over-year and up compared to 2008, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico was up 39.5 percent in May 2010 compared to May 2009, increasing to $66.8 billion, according to data released by the United States Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).

More good news surfaced in the domestic rail sector yesterday as Norfolk Southern Corporation reported second-quarter 2010 net income earnings.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced international scheduled traffic statistics for June, showing continued strong demand growth as the industry recovers from the impact of the global financial crisis.
