Commerce reported that November retail sales at $449.3 billion were up 0.7 percent compared to October and up 5.1 percent compared to November 2013, and the NRF said that November retail sales, which exclude automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, were up 0.6 percent seasonally-adjusted month-to-month over October and increased 3.2 percent annually on an unadjusted basis.

For October, the most recent month for which data is available, the Freight TSI hit 121.8, topping September’s 121.4, which was downwardly revised from 121.5.

A one-year suspension of certain components of the federal motor carriers hours-of-service (HOS) rule was included as part of a $1.1 trillion fiscal year 2015 appropriations bill introduced yesterday by the House of Representatives.

The Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) reporting that the average price per gallon of diesel fell 7 cents to $3.535 for its steepest decline since the week of October 29, 2012, when it saw an 8.6 cent drop. What’s more, the average price per gallon is at its lowest level since the week of February 14, 2011, when it was at $3.534 per gallon.
