Freight transportation and logistics services provider Hub Group Inc. said today that earlier this month its Comtrak Logistics Inc. subsidiary, which offers national drayage and truckload services, acquired Domestic Transport Inc., a Pacific, Washington-based provider of intermodal drayage services.

Class I railroad carrier Canadian Pacific (CP) recently announced it will be a tenant at the Western Canada-based Global Transportation Hub (GTH). CP’s plans for a new intermodal facility at the Global Transportation Hub were announced in December, 2007.

Carload volume—at 273,584—was up 1.1 percent annually, but behind the week ending May 28 at 288,049 and the weeks ending May 21 and May 14 at 295,148 and 294,271l, respectively. Weeks after the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) said it would not meet its initial goal of publishing a new hours-of-service (HOS) rule—based on changes to the rule it proposed late last year—by its initial deadline of July 26, pushing the deadline back to October 28, two prominent industry organizations—the American Trucking Associations (ATA) and the National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) — are again voicing their displeasure with the proposed rules.

Despite recent signs of a slackening pace of global economic growth, California exporters turned in another impressive performance in April with shipments totaling $12.88 billion, a gain of 14.4 percent over the same month last year, according to an analysis by Beacon Economics of foreign trade data released this week by the U.S. Commerce Department.
