Saddle Creek Corp. said this week it has invested in alternative fuel vehicles. These vehicles are comprised of 40 Freightliner natural gas trucks and will be in Saddle Creek’s for-hire fleet, and the company plans to add 40 more early next year.

The Western Coal Traffic League filed a petition with the Department of Transportation’s Surface Transportation Board (STB) requesting that the STB issue an order that would adjust the Uniform Railroad Costing System of Class I railroad carrier BNSF Railway Company.

Carload volume—at 305,133—was up 1.1 percent annually and approached the week ending April 2, which hit 305,905 carloads, marking the highest weekly carload tally since the end of 2008.

C.H. Robinson Worldwide (CHRW) announced this week that its subsidiary C.H. Robinson Company has acquired Timco Worldwide, a Davis, Calif.-based provider and marketer of quality produce, specifically melons.

In its most recent edition of the Trucking Activity Report, the ATA reported that the turnover rate for over-the-road truckers hit 79 percent in the second quarter of 2011, marking the third straight quarter of increased turnover rates in the driver market.
