The drumroll for high spot market freight availability continues to beat along, according to the most recent data from the TransCore North American Freight Index.

Multiple media outlets are reporting today on a push to halt enacting a law designed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in California, entitled A.B. 32. Emissions reduction, no matter how you slice it, seems to be about as polarizing a topic as there is in the political landscape—and subsequently the freight transportation sector.

Unlike past weeks, there were no 2010 records set for railroad traffic for the week ending September 11, according to data released by the Association of American Railroads (AAR).

Earlier this week, UPS said it has rolled out a new less-than-container (LCL) service between Japan and the United States.

On its fiscal first quarter earnings call earlier today, FedEx announced some significant changes for FedEx Freight, its less-than-truckload (LTL) unit

FedEx got fiscal year 2011 off to a strong start, with net income of $380 million for the quarter for a 110 percent increase from $181 million during the same timeframe a year ago.

Earlier today, Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller (D-WV) released a report entitled “The Current Financial State of the Class I Freight Rail Industry,” which takes Class I railroads to task for what he described as earning record profit margins at the expense of shipper customers.
