Even though various metrics of late indicate the economy maybe slowing down, a recent decline in a transportation-focused economic survey does not necessarily make it so.
As a follow-up to a sustainability push launched last October, UPS recently announced it is expanding its Carbon Neutral shipping program to 35 countries and territories throughout Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

Con-way Truckload, a subsidiary of transportation and logistics services provider Con-way, said this week it has introduced a new offering for shippers to better utilize trailer space, as well as better effectively secure freight to prevent shipment damage.

Penske Truck Leasing, a subsidiary of global transportation services provider Penske Corporation, said this week it has opened up a new facility in Tijuana, Mexico.
Railroad volumes for the week ending July 10 were down year-over-year and compared to 2008, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR).

The market for Class 8 vehicles continues to show sustained strength, according to recent data from ACT Research, a provider of data and analysis for trucks and other commercial vehicles.
In a move designed to expand its services in the Midwest, less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services provider New England Motor Freight (NEMF) said this week it has opened up a new terminal in Toledo, Ohio.
