Following an April announcement signaling the launch of “America’s Marine Highway” program, an effort to shift freight to waterways from congested U.S. highways, the United States Department of Transportation announced the marine highway corridors and an initial eight projects and six initiatives along the corridors that will be available for federal assistance through this effort.
Citing a strong rebound in net margins for publicly traded truckload companies in the second quarter, ACT Research, a provider of data and analysis for trucks and other commercial vehicles, said it expects continued improvement in demand for heavy-duty vehicles and trailers.

The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that its Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) rose 0.2 percent in June, following a 0.4 decline in May.
On August 1, a law mandating 100 percent screening of cargo transported on passenger aircraft took effect. While the mandate has not been in effect for that long, the early returns indicate things are off to a solid start, according to industry stakeholders.
