The American Trucking Associations (ATA) said today it is calling on Congress to take action on maintaining the current motor carrier hours-of-service (HOS) restart rule, which it said provided truck drivers with the flexibility and opportunity to take extended off-duty periods without restriction.

Memphis-based FedEx said yesterday that it has unconditionally declared its offer for TNT, with 88.4 percent of all shares committed and a settlement date for the deal of next Wednesday, May 25 and all offer conditions having been satisfied or waived.

This strike authorization coincides with DHL’s annual shareholders meeting being held by its parent company DHL Deutsche Post today. The vote to strike was close to unanimous, with 93 percent of the five-company pilot groups participating in the strike vote and 99 percent of those pilots voted in favor of a strike. Pilots at the five U.S. cargo carriers voted online through anonymous balloting in April and May.
