Total January volume was 474,960 TEU, which was down 3.9 percent annually.
Carload volume—279,501—was up 1.7 percent annually—and was behind the week ending February 4 at 284,546 and the week ending January 28 at 283,654.

The uncertainty over the level of container freight rates in the next few months has severely disrupted trading on the freight futures market, said analysts at the Paris-based consultancy, Alphaliner.
February import cargo volume is expected to be down 6.8 percent on an annual basis, according to the monthly Port Tracker report by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Hackett Associates.
Global third-party logistics (3PL) services provider MIQ Logistics recently announced that it has bolstered its EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) presence through an initiative centered on providing less-than-container (LCL) consolidation services from Istanbul, Turkey to New York.
UPS said this week it has acquired Brussels-based Kiala, a technology provider with a platform that allows e-commerce retailers (e-tailers) to offer consumers the option of having goods delivered to a convenient retail location.

APL Logistics today launched what it is calling “Simultaneous optimization” – a shipment planning platform that could change the way large freight buyers coordinate their transportation activities
