When it comes to the ongoing quarrel between the American Trucking Associations and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration over the pending motor carrier Hours-of-Service (HOS) changes, did anyone really think that ATA would not have the last word, at least for now anyhow?
While railroads are extremely focused on safety, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) said this week that representatives from major U.S. freight railroads told the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) this week that the possibility of implementing fully interoperable positive train control (PTC) across the more than 60,000 route miles required by the Congressionally mandated 2015 deadline is not currently feasible.
The United States Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) said today that trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico fell 3.2 percent in December 2012 compared to December 2011 at $71.9 billion.
