The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that its Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) rose 0.2 percent in June, following a 0.4 decline in May.
On August 1, a law mandating 100 percent screening of cargo transported on passenger aircraft took effect. While the mandate has not been in effect for that long, the early returns indicate things are off to a solid start, according to industry stakeholders.

In a development that would be laughable if it were not so calculatingly devious, the Teamsters have forged a partnership with “progressives” comprising community activists and environmental groups to mandate that independent owner-operator truckers be banned from the ports.
Legislation introduced last week by Senators Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) and John Ensign (R-Nev.) is focused on putting more investment towards improving and increasing railroad infrastructure and capacity.
