Following a one-week respite in which the average price per gallon of diesel gasoline saw a weekly gain for the first time in 19 weeks, diesel prices resumed their downward slide this week, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

A number of container lines operating between the U.S. and Asia say they intend to implement congestion charges of up to $1,000 per 40-foot container (FEU) for cargo moving via U.S. West Coast ports, effective November 17, 2014, in response to labor-related terminal delays.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) today announced that fiscal year 2014 operating revenue increased by $569 million, which was driven by its January 2014 rate increase and an ongoing strong performance in its Shipping and Package group. Conversely, though, the USPS said it is still faced with regulatory burdens and constraints as it incurred a FY 2014 net loss of $5.5 billion, marking the eighth straight annual net loss. USPS officials said this most recent annual loss highlights the need for legislation to repair its “broken business model.”
