The Department of Commerce reported that May retail sales at $421.1 billion were up 0.6 percent over April and up 4.7 percent compared to May 2012, and the NRF said May retail sales rose 0.6 percent on a seasonally-adjusted basis from April and were up 4.3 percent on an unadjusted basis annually.

In early July, the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will commence implementation of the liquidated damages phase of the Import Security Filing, which is commonly known as 10+2.
Con-way Freight, the LTL subsidiary of transportation and logistics services provider Con-way Inc., will implement a 5.9 percent GRI for non-contractual business that will take effect on June 24.

The United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation yesterday approved the nomination of Charlotte, North Carolina Mayor Anthony Foxx as Secretary of Transportation.
The average price per gallon for diesel gasoline dropped for the third straight week, falling two cents to $3.849 per gallon, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Following the lead of some of its biggest competitors, FedEx Freight, the less-than-truckload (LTL) subsidiary of FedEx Freight, said this week it is raising rates for non-contractual freight in the form of GRI (general rates increases) by 4.5 percent effective, July 1.
