The American Trucking Associations (ATA) reported today that trucking volumes showed modest gains in February.
In an effort to pre-inspect truck-hauled cargo between the United States and Canada, the countries last week issued a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Canada’s Ministry of Public Safety and U.S. Customs and Border Protection to launch a truck cargo pre-inspection pilot program in Canada.
Following declines of 4.2 cents and 2.9 cents, respectively, over the last two weeks, the EIA reported that diesel prices this week dipped 4.1 cents to $4.047 per gallon. Over the last three weeks, priced have dropped a cumulative 11.2 cents.

The government’s proposed changes to the complex truck driver hours of service regulations had their day in court on the Ides of March and certainly anybody that expected clarity on the issue should have been beware.

Like its neighbor, the Port of Los Angeles, across San Pedro bay, the Port of Long Beach (POLB) had a strong month volume-wise in February, according to data released by the port this week.
Carload volume—at 276,698—was down 0.9 percent, and intermodal—at 235,174 containers and trailers—was up 4 percent annually.

Total volume—at 614,948 TEU—was up 16.99 percent annually. Imports for the month—at 318,547 TEU—increased 25.23 percent, and exports—at 156,690 TEU—were down 4.88 percent.
