Spot market truckload volumes in June were the second-highest ever recorded in 2011 and in the 15 years they have been tracked by TransCore, the company recently reported.
Global supply chain and logistics services provider CEVA Logistics recently held its first global Supplier Awards ceremony. CEVA said these awards were launched as “part of its relentless quest for excellence” and are designed to recognize “impeccable execution, commitment, and strategic alignment among” its supplier base. Freight transportation and logistics services provider Pacer International Inc. recently announced that its Pacer Distribution Services (PDS) subsidiary has expanded into the Seattle region by leasing space in Sumner, Washington.
Compared to a year ago, volumes are down overall at both ports.

Carload volume—at 245,574—was down 3.2 percent year-over-year.
Coming off of April and May which saw 7 and 8 percent gains, respectively, in the number of waterborne shipments heading to the U.S., June saw a 1 percent decline from May to June at 1,030,363, according to Panjiva. On an annual basis, June shipments were down 4 percent compared to June 2010’s 1,076,015 shipments.

As has been the case in recent months, stagnant economic growth has been on display in the form of monthly retail sales, and June was no exception, give the most recent batch of retail sales data from the United States Department of Commerce and the National Retail Federation (NRF).
