Watching President Obama’s State of the Union address last night, it was hard not to notice the myriad aspects of his speech that had some sort of—direct or indirect—impact or effect on freight transportation, supply chain management, or logistics in one form or another.

The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported this week that its Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) increased 1.0 percent from November to December, following a 1.7 percent rise from October to November.

Two third-party logistics (3PL) service providers—Greatwide Logistics Services LLC and Cardinal Logistics Management Inc.—said today they have completed a merger of their two companies, which they said will create a market leading logistics organization that offers a broad service platform with annual revenues of more than $1 billion.
