At 123.8, the Freight TSI was 30.9 percent above April 2009’s low of 94.6, which was during the depths of the recession. It was slightly below November’s 123.9, which is the historic peak for the Freight TSI, according to BTS.

U.S. Carloads were up 4.7 percent annually at 273,648, and intermodal at 237,915 containers and trailers was down 3.3 percent.

Fourth quarter and full-year 2014 results for Van Buren, Ark.-based USA Truck Inc. were strong, with the company reporting its ninth straight quarter of improved earnings results and its third straight quarter of positive operating income, along with its highest earnings per share in nine years.

EDF Senior Manager, Supply Chain Logistics Jason Mathers said that these proposed standards for new regulations for fuel-efficient standards make sense on multiple levels on a societal basis for things like protecting health and infrastructure, as well as from a commerce-based perspective, as EDF believes these standards will provide a clear business value, with shippers saving money and carriers lowering business costs.

With a 0.4 cent increase to $2.835 per gallon, the average price per gallon checked in at $2.835, which is slightly ahead of last week’s $2.831 per gallon, which marks the lowest average weekly price since the week of February 15, 2010, when it was at $2.756 per gallon.
