Time is money when you are running a successful business. The less time your crews spend at the gas pump or driving around, the quicker they can get to job sites and finish on schedule. And, of course, with less money spent on fuel, the more money you can put towards your bottom line.

Commerce reported that February retail sales at $437.0 billion were down 0.6 percent compared to January and up 1.7 percent compared to January 2014, and the NRF said that February retail sales, which exclude automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, dipped 0.2 percent seasonally-adjusted month-to-month compared to January and increased 3 percent annually on an unadjusted basis.

Truckload spot volume and rates for the month of February were down on an annual basis in February, according to the DAT North American Freight Index. DAT said that spot market freight availability in February was down for the second month in a row, which it described as a “seasonal pattern that mimics the first quarter of 2014 but at a higher volume.”
