The increase in shale gas extraction projects is triggering spectacular growth in North American drilling projects. But with this growth comes transportation challenges, as suppliers of pipe, chemicals, drilling equipment, and other materials must get products to and from an expanding number of energy sites, many in remote locations.
A report in the Wall Street Journal this week stated that a group of 29 nations is requesting the European Union (EU) to spike its costly emissions trading scheme (ETS) that would impose new emissions taxes on U.S. and other nations’ air carriers flying into and out of the EU and is seeking retaliation against the EU and raising the risk of a trade war.

Data released this week by ACT Research, a provider of data and analysis for trucks and other commercial vehicles, indicated that amid an ongoing strong build, a strong and growing order level led to a backlog in January Class 8 truck orders to 125,000 units, representing its highest backlog volume since July 2012.

The ongoing conflict between the Port of Los Angeles and the American Trucking Association may be finally drawing to a close.
Officials said that the contract between the companies is a long-term agreement at competitive market rates, adding that it encompasses the intermodal operations of APL, as well as those of APL Logistics’ auto-related activities in North America.
