The Institute of Supply Management reported today that while manufacturing activity in June was not as strong as it was in May, the economic recovery is moving forward.
While diesel prices appear to be in check to a large degree for the time being, many industry observers maintain there is no real rhyme and reason in terms of fluctuating fuel prices.
With the first half of the year officially in the books, now is a good time to assess how things are going in the supply chain/logistics/freight transportation sectors.

With global trade slowly gaining traction, United States-based ports are taking steps to expand capacity in preparation for an uptick in demand along with focusing on capital development to meet infrastructure needs, according to the new Ports, Airports and Global Infrastructure report from global real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle.
Customer demand is the driver for flatbed expansion, says company officials.

The House of Representatives yesterday voted to extend funding and taxing authority for the Federal Aviation Administration until August 1. Funding was set to expire on July 3.

Vital international movements of airfreight could be delayed, and costs will increase, because European and U.S. security regulations are incompatible.

Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico was up 32.4 percent in April 2010 compared to April 2009, increasing to $65.8 billion, according to data released by the United States Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).
