Infor, a supply chain and logistics technology services and ERP software provider, said it plans to acquire GT Nexus, a global provider of cloud-based global commerce technology, for $675 million. Infor said the deal is expected to become official within 45 days, pending regulatory approval.

At an average of $2.617 per gallon, the price was down 5.1 cents compared to last week, with prices dropping a cumulative 29.7 cents going back to the week of May 25, when the average price was at $2.914 per gallon.

Over the last several months, there has been a spate of merger and acquisition (M&) activity centered around deals with an emphasis on large truckload brokerages. On the surface deals like these makes sense for more than a few reasons, given the vast carrier reach that the large brokerages have, coupled with strong technology platforms, and shipper relationships across a wide swath of industries.

The USPS reported today that it had a $586 million net loss for the fiscal third quarter, which represents a $1.4 billion reduction compare to a $2 billion net loss for a same quarter a year ago. For the fiscal first and second quarters, the USPS had $754 million and $1.5 billion net losses, respectively.

Senator Tom Carper has introduced a bill call the TRAFFIC Relief Act, which pledges to raise U.S. gasoline and diesel taxes (that have remained at current levels of 23.4 cents for diesel and 18.4 cents for gasoline since 1993), as well as expand tax credits, too.

Carloads decreased 6.5 percent––or 95,295 carloads––to 1,376,411 compared to July 2014, and intermodal saw continued gains in July at 1,331,888 containers and trailers, which marked a 3.5 percent––or 45,538 units––increase.
