FedEx Corp. reported adjusted earnings of $2.51 per diluted share for the third quarter ended February 29, compared to adjusted earnings of $2.03 per diluted share a year ago. Without adjustments, FedEx reported earnings of $1.84 for the third quarter compared to $2.18 per diluted share last year.

A law of unintended consequences is alive and well. Just ask trucking lobbyists and those inside the Department of Transportation working feverishly to fix what they describe as a “technical glitch” that threatens to scrap the entire law covering truck drivers’ hours of service.
Carloads were down 12.8 percent compared to the same week last year at 243,275, and intermodal containers and trailers were down 10.3 percent annually at 245,902.

Continuing its sustained push on the natural gas front, UPS said this week its has invested $100 million towards building 12 new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations and adding 380 new CNG trailers for its alternative fuel and advanced technology fleet.
