The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported this week that its Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) headed up 0.5 percent from December to January, following a 0.4 percent decline from November to December, snapping two straight months of decreases.

Carloads were down 8 percent compared to the same week last year at 247,016, and intermodal containers and trailers were up 4.5 percent annually at 265,186.

Express Freight Finance, an independent factoring company specializing in transportation clients, has recently launched its freight-bill factoring services for truck fleets, owner-operators, and freight brokers nation-wide.
With increasing traffic congestion and the predominance of trucking as the main means of freight transportation in our consumer goods-oriented economy, it's no wonder that scrutiny of the trucking industry has gained in both scope and intensity.
Freight shipments and expenditures in February shot up from January to February while showing sequential declines, according to the most recent edition of the Cass Freight Index Report from Cass Information Systems.
UPS said this week it has broken ground to expand its package sorting and delivery facility in Herne, Germany, an $80 million project that is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Non asset-based 3PL XPO Logistics and Trinity Health, an Indiana-based, multi-institutional Catholic healthcare system with hospitals in 21 states, said today they have rolled out plans to build a $26 million, state-of-the-art Trinity Health supply distribution center in Fort Wayne Indiana.
