The pattern of uneven monthly truck volumes continued into April, according to data released today by the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

ATA officials said that seasonally-adjusted tonnage has now shown gains in four of the last five reported months and is up 7.6 percent going back to November 2012.

When it comes to the ongoing quarrel between the American Trucking Associations and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration over the pending motor carrier Hours-of-Service (HOS) changes, did anyone really think that ATA would not have the last word, at least for now anyhow?

In its report, the GAO explained that mileage-based user fee initiatives in the United States and abroad show that such fees can lead to more equitable and efficient use of roadways by charging drivers based on their actual road use and by providing incentives to reduce road use.
