The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported this week that U.S. trade with its North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico increased 8.2 percent from September 2013 to September 2014 at $102.2 billion.

The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported this week that U.S. trade with its North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico increased 4.4 percent from August 2013 to August 2014 at $100.6 billion.

The BTS said that the August Freight TSI at 120.9 is 27.8 percent higher than the April 2009 low and now stands as the highest Freight TSI level since BTS first began collecting its data in 2000, edging out the previous high of 120.2 recorded in May of this year.

The BTS said that the May Freight TSI at 120.0 is the new all-time high level, topping November 2013’s 119.4, which was set before the harsh winter weather kicked in. BTS said that after falling to 94.6 in April 2009, the Freight TSI increased a cumulative 26.9 percent in the following 61 months.

The March Freight TSI at 116.7 is 23.2 percent ahead of April 2009 low point of the recession and 0.8 percent below the all-time high of 117.7 recorded in November 2013, with freight shipments hitting their third-highest level ever.
