Carloads decreased 6.5 percent––or 95,295 carloads––to 1,376,411 compared to July 2014, and intermodal saw continued gains in July at 1,331,888 containers and trailers, which marked a 3.5 percent––or 45,538 units––increase.

AAR reported that June intermodal volume–at 1,117,149 containers and trailers–was up 3.7 percent, or 39,797 units, annually, which now stands as the highest-volume rail intermodal month ever recorded, according to AAR data.

Intermodal volume was up 8.1 percent annually at 280,016 containers and trailers. This outpaced the week ending April 11 at 270,463 and the week ending April 4 at 271,127. AAR said this tally marks the second highest weekly output it has ever recorded as well as the first time container and trailer traffic was higher than carloads for a one-week period.
