The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that its Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) was up 0.4 percent from July to August.

Transportation Secretary Ray H. LaHood is vowing to go to the mat against his former House Republican colleagues in winning $10 billion in seed money to create a national infrastructure bank to fund freight projects of national significance.

The United States Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico was up 18.1 percent in July 2011 compared to July 2010, coming in at $72.4 billion.

The BTS said that the July Freight TSI at 108.3 is up 14.8 percent from the recent low of 94.3 in April 2009, which was its lowest level since July 1997. July’s Freight TSI is down 4.4 percent from its historic peak of 113.3 in January 2005.

Following the July announcement that the United States and Mexico had reached a cross-border trucking agreement, a Wall Street Journal report indicated that the Teamsters union has filed a lawsuit against the White House that intends to block the deal.

The United States Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico was up 11.0 percent in June 2011 compared to June 2010, coming in at $77.5 billion.
