Commerce reported that February retail sales at $437.0 billion were down 0.6 percent compared to January and up 1.7 percent compared to January 2014, and the NRF said that February retail sales, which exclude automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, dipped 0.2 percent seasonally-adjusted month-to-month compared to January and increased 3 percent annually on an unadjusted basis.

Commerce reported that November retail sales at $442.9 billion were down 0.9 percent compared to November and up 3.2 percent compared to December 2013, and total retail sales from October through December were up 4.1 percent annually. The NRF said that December retail sales, which exclude automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, were up down 0.9 percent seasonally-adjusted month-to-month compared to November and increased 4.6 percent annually on an unadjusted basis.

Commerce reported that November retail sales at $449.3 billion were up 0.7 percent compared to October and up 5.1 percent compared to November 2013, and the NRF said that November retail sales, which exclude automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, were up 0.6 percent seasonally-adjusted month-to-month over October and increased 3.2 percent annually on an unadjusted basis.

On the heels of a sluggish September and with the holiday shopping season officially having commenced, the retail sector received a bit of good news today, with both the National Retail Federation (NRF) and the United States Department of Commerce issuing positive retail sales data for the month of October.

Commerce reported that August retail sales at $444.4 billion were up 0.6 percent compared to July and up 5.0 percent compared to August 2013, and the NRF said that August retail sales, which exclude automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, were up 0.5 percent compared to July and up 2.7 percent on an annual unadjusted basis.

Commerce reported that June retail sales at $439.9 billion were up 0.2 percent over May and up 4.3 percent compared to June 2013, and the National Retail Federation said that June retail sales, which exclude automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, were flat on a seasonally-adjusted and sequential basis for the second straight month in May, and saw a 3.0 percent unadjusted annual increase.
