As was the case in April, data from Panjiva, an online search engine with detailed information on global suppliers and manufacturers, issued this week did not stick to its typical theme of flat or slight growth from April to May. Instead, it saw a fairly significant gain.

Straying from its typical seasonal trajectory, United States-bound waterborne shipments dipped from March to April, according to data recently issued by Panjiva, an online search engine with detailed information on global suppliers and manufacturers.

March shipments came in at 988,065, which easily eclipsed February by 24 percent, as well as March 2014 by 19 percent. Panjiva said total first quarter shipments at 2,580,899 were 4 percent ahead of the first quarter of 2014.

One of the survey’s main findings was that respondents’ economic outlook heading into 2015 was optimistic but not as optimistic as they were heading into 2014, with 55 percent feeling good about things in 2015, which was down fro 2014’s 64 percent.

Total December shipments––at 1,150,810––were 3 percent better than November and up 5 percent annually. And total 2014 shipments––at 14,092,551––were up 5.61 percent, setting a new record for annual shipments during the time which Panjiva has been collecting this data since 2007.

Company officials said that Panjiva is accessing this data through a strategic partnership with JML International, a provider of Mexican Custom Statistics, which will enable Panjiva to offer its customers details on all shipments to and from Mexico via all types of transport, and also provide insight on more than 500,000 new suppliers and 200,000 new buyers.

October shipments––at 1,260,200–– up 7 percent annually and 1 percent over September’s 1,241,848 and, which matches up with September to October differences in recent years, including a 2 percent increase in 2013, a ten percent increase in 2012 (being the exception), flat growth in 2011, a 2 percent decrease in 2010, and a 3 percent gain in 2009.
