Even with expected import cargo volume declines in the coming months, the Port Tracker report by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and maritime consultancy Hackett Associates expects volumes to be up for the first half of 2016.

Total POLA November volumes were up 7 percent at 709,968 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) compared to November 2014, and POLB volumes were up 6.6 percent annually to 619,699 TEU.

Total POLA volumes in June were down 2 percent compared to June 2014 at 721,802 TEU, and June volumes at POLB declined 4.4 percent annually at 583,621 TEU.

The new online offering is entitled “Vessels at a Glance” and is comprised of a daily update that shows all vessels at berth and anchor within POLB, as well as the Port of Los Angeles (POLA). It also includes information relating to vessel arrival and departure dates and length of stay in Long Beach, too, along with weekly updated charts that show the number of vessels at anchor at POLB and POLA that POLB officials said illustrate trends occurring over the last six months.

Container volumes at the Port of Los Angeles increased 6 percent in 2014 over the previous year, with total volumes reaching 8,340,065 Twenty-Foot-Equivalent Units (TEU). It was the third busiest year in the Port’s history, just behind 8.4 million TEUs in 2007 and 8.5 million TEUs in 2006.

Total POLB volumes dropped 9.1 percent in August at 573,083 TEU, and POLA volumes in August were up 6.7 percent compared to August 2013 at 757,702 TEU.
