Global logistics: FedEx Trade Networks continues its global expansion plan

FedEx subsidiary FedEx Trade Networks, the company’s global trade arm said this week it has added three new freight forwarding offices.

The offices are based in Munich, Germany; Bucharest, Romania; and Chengdu, China. These additions bring the number of offices FedEx Trade Networks has opened since 2008 to 41 outside of the United States and Canada and are part of the company’s ongoing global expansion plan, according to company officials.

And they added that the Munich office is the third FedEx Trade Networks office to open in Germany, and the Chengdu office is the company’s tenth in China. The Bucharest office is its first one in Romania.

“Today’s shippers need a freight forwarder with global reach,” said Fred Schardt, president and CEO of FedEx Trade Networks, in a statement. “By continuing to build our infrastructure in the world’s most critical growth markets, we are delivering on our commitment to provide what we feel is the most complete portfolio of supply chain solutions in the industry.”

A company spokesperson told LM that one of the biggest benefits of this expansion for shippers is that they will be able to access the FedEx global network and seamless support across other FedEx operating companies in each of the markets where it has opened offices.

“Customers of FedEx Trade Networks will benefit from the close coordination and collaboration between FedEx Trade Networks and FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Freight to provide customers with flexibility for their international trade needs with the same reliable FedEx service standards,” the spokesperson said.

In July, FedEx Trade Networks said it is taking steps to augment its ocean freight forwarding services in the form of a new Ocean Choices portfolio. Company officials said that this portfolio enables shippers to choose and implement the ocean service that best meets their specific supply chain needs.

This portfolio includes traditional freight forwarding, a distribution center bypass offering, and less-than-container load and full-container-load cargo services.

Other services provided for shippers by FedEx Trade Networks in its offices include Global Order Logistics, FedEx International Direct Distribution, and trade and customs advisory services, and access to the global FedEx network.
