Prologis research paper examines impact of various technologies on logistics real estate efficiency
The research paper, entitled “Future Proofing the Global Supply Chain:  How AI, Automation and Other Technologies Are Impacting Efficiency,” noted that logistics real estate investments outpaced revenue growth by 57% over the past decade despite advancements in automation and data analytics, which it labeled “the supply chain productivity paradox.”

A sure sign that the holiday season getting closer each day are the respective announcements made by carriers, transportation and logistics services providers, and shippers alike, announcing their “help wanted” signs have been hung, as they look for seasonal workers.

National weekly diesel average falls for first time in nine weeks, reports EIA
With a 4.7-cent decline, the national average came in at $4.586 per gallon. This came on the heels of a 9.3-cent increase, to $4.633 per gallon, for the week of September 18, and a 4.8-cent increase, for the week of September 11, to $4.50 per gallon.

FTR Trucking Conditions Index sees sequential improvements
For July, the most recent month for which data is available, the TCI reading was -5.34, faring better than June’s -6.29, the lowest TCI reading going back to November 2022.

DAT’s August Truckload Volume Index presents a mixed bag for volume and rates
The van TVI was up 8.0% compared to July, at 241, and down 8.0% annually; the reefer TVI was up 4% compared to July, at 175 and down 5% annually; and the flatbed TVI was up 9% compared to July, at 259, and down 0.4% annually;

U.S. rail carload and intermodal volumes are up, for week ending September 16, reports AAR
Rail carloads, at 232,723, eked out a 0.2% annual gain. Intermodal containers and trailers, at 257,067 units, were up 3.3% annually.

Q&A: Cary Davis, American Association of Port Authorities President and CEO-elect
In late August, the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) announced that its Board of Directors announced that, effective October 1, Cary Davis will become its new President and CEO. Davis joined AAPA in November 2019 and has played key public policy roles for the organization in his roles as VP of Government Relations, General Counsel and Board Secretary.

Estes’ $1.52 billion bid beats ODFL’s bankruptcy offer for Yellow terminals
The first big winner in the bankruptcy dismantling of Yellow Corp. is less-than-truckload (LTL) rival, Richmond, Va.-based Estes Express, the nation’s fourth-largest LTL carrier.
