Hurricane Dorian carrier update


As Hurricane Dorian is making its way north from the east coast of Florida, safety is paramount for everyone, of course. That said, Logistics Management has provided an overview below of what is happening with various freight transportation carriers, providers and ports. The statements below are directly from company web sites to keep you informed in a brief and concise manner. Please be careful out there for the next few days.

ABF: “Our hurricane preparedness process is currently in effect. For the most recent updates, view service center and lane interruptions here. Our top priorities are the safety and well-being of our people and protecting our customers’ freight. As the situation continues to evolve, please don’t hesitate to contact your account manager or our Customer Service team at 800-610-5544 for assistance.”

UPS Freight:

Severe weather has impacted UPS Freight operations, today: Wednesday, September 4th.

Service is affected in the following locations and surrounding areas:
The following Centers will not service its eastern coastal routes:
Orlando, FL
West Palm Beach, FL
Kinston, NC
Wilmington, NC
Florence, SC

Due to Hurricane Dorian, and its associated road closures and mandatory evacuations, the following Service Centers are CLOSED today:
Jacksonville, FL
Savannah, GA
Charleston, SC

“Be sure to check back through the day for possible updates. UPS Freight is monitoring road conditions in affected areas and adjusting its operations, accordingly. As we make every effort to move shipments to their final destinations as quickly and safely as possible, please note that UPS Freight's No-Fee Guarantee may not be honored for shipments affected by severe weather or other events beyond its control. For information regarding specific shipments, customers are urged to log in to My LTL Freight or call UPS Freight Customer Service at 1-800-333-7400.”

FedEx Freight: “Hurricane Dorian is expected to produce dangerous storm surge and hurricane-force winds along portions of the Florida east coast and the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. The threat of flash flooding will spread up the southeast U.S. coast today and Thursday, then across the coastal Mid-Atlantic region on Friday. Our contingency plans are in place and, as always, our priorities are the safety and well-being of our team members and minimizing the effects of potential storms on service. FedEx will be prepared to provide service to the best of our ability in areas affected by the storm and as local conditions allow.”

Norfolk Southern: “Norfolk Southern continues to monitor the path of Hurricane Dorian and has taken reasonable and practical precautions to protect employees and rail shipments along the Mid-Atlantic coast. Customers can expect delays on traffic destined to or shipping from these areas. Additionally, Intermodal origin facility gates across the system are closed to shipments destined for Savannah, Charleston, and FEC destinations. NS has staged equipment and materials in key areas and will begin recovery activities as soon as it is safe to do so. Norfolk Southern will continue to provide updates as the storm progresses. Customers with specific service questions or whose operations will be curtailed as a result of the storm should contact their NS customer service representative. The latest ETA and routing information is available through AccessNS.

CSX: CSX continues to monitor the path of Hurricane Dorian and has made extensive preparations for the effects of the storm. At this time, we anticipatethat Dorian will impact portions of the CSX network in the following regions; customers with freight moving through impacted areas will be advised of any delays or rerouting:Florida - Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Georgia and the Carolinas - Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 5. Further updates will be provided as we continue to monitor the storm. Intermodal customers should refer to Real-Time Service Advisories for intermodal-specific operational actions.   

Old Dominion Freight Line: Please note that some Old Dominion service areas may experience temporary service interruptions pending the impact of Hurricane Dorian. Please Click here for a detailed map of all service centers currently impacted. Information relating to service and Old Dominion operations will be updated in real time as more information becomes available and is subject to change pending the severity of events. XPO Logistics: “We’ve been working closely with our customers in affected areas to get necessities to the stores where consumers need them the most,” said Troy Cooper, XPO Logistics president. “So far we’ve moved more than 175 truckloads of goods, including pallets of water, plywood and generators, so they’re ready as people need them.”
