National diesel average falls for the sixth time in seven weeks, reports EIA

After heading up for the first time in six weeks a week ago, the national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline headed down again, the for week of October 19, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Falling 0.007 cents, this week’s national average came in at $2.388 per gallon. This came on the heels of a 0.008-cent increase to $2.395 per gallon, for the week of October 12, which followed a 0.007-cent decline, to $2.387 per gallon, for the week of October 5. That was preceded by a 0.010-cent decline, to $2.394 per gallon, for the week of September 28 and a 0.018-cent decline to $2.404 per gallon, for the week of September 21.

The national diesel average has been below the $3 per gallon mark since the week ending February 2, when it posted an average of $2.956.

On an annual basis, this week’s national average is down 66.2 cents, which is in line with the 65.6 -cent spread, for the week of October 12.

West Texas Intermediate Crude is currently trading at $40.43 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
