The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline dropped for the third time in the last four weeks, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
Falling 1.5 cents, the national diesel average now stands at $3.136 per gallon. This comes on the heels of a 1.2-cent decline and a 0.03-cent increase, respectively, over the previous two weeks.
The national average has seen gains in 12 of the last 16 weeks, and this week also marked the 16th consecutive week that the national diesel average has topped the $3 per gallon mark.
On an annual basis, this week’s average is down 14.9 cents.
Prior to that, the average had been below the $3 per gallon mark for five weeks, and before that stretch, the last time that the national average dipped below the $3 per gallon mark was the week of March 19, 2018, when it was at $2.972.
West Texas Intermediate Crude oil is currently trading at $52.74 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
