National diesel average is down, for the week of June 5, reports EIA


The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline saw another week of declines, for the week of June 5, according to data issued earlier today by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The national average decreased 5.8 cents to $3.797 per gallon, marking the first time the national diesel average fell below the $3.80 per gallon mark since the week of January 24, 2022, when it came in at $3.78.

This week’s decrease followed a 2.8-cent decline to $3.855 per gallon, for the week of May 29, a 1.4-cent decline, to $3.883, for the week of May 22, a 2.5-cent decline, to $3.897 per gallon, for the week of May 15 and a 9.6-cent decline, to $3.922, for the week of May 8, which represented its largest weekly decline since a 9.5-cent drop to $4.444, for the week of February 13.

The 9.6-cent decrease, for the week of May 8, followed a 5.9-cent decrease, to $4.018, for the week of May 1. And the national average has fallen a cumulative 72.7 cents going back to the week of January 16, when it stood at $4.524 per gallon. And over the last seven weeks, from the week of April 24 to the week of June 5, it has fallen a cumulative 28 cents.

Compared to the same week a year ago, the national average is down $1.906, steeper than the decline, for the week of May 29, at $1.684. And the average price per barrel of WTI crude oil is currently at $71.86 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
