National diesel average is up for the fifth consecutive week, reports EIA

The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline headed up for the fifth consecutive week, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Rising 2.4-cents, the national average now stands at $2.526 per gallon. This follows a 4-cent increase, to $2.502, for the week of November 30, a 2.1-cent increase, to $2.462, for the week of November 23, and a 5.8-cent increase, to $2.441, for the week of November 16, and 1.1-cent gain, to $2.383, for the week ending November 9.

Going back to the week of November 9, which kicked off this five-week stretch of increases, the national average has headed up a cumulative 14.3 cents. And the national average has been below the $3 per gallon mark since the week of February 2, when it posted an average of $2.956. 

On an annual basis, this week’s national average is down 52.3 cents, below the 56.8-cent annual spread, for the week of November 30 and the 60.4-cent annual spread, for the week of November 23, and the 63.3-cent annual spread, for the week of November 16.

West Texas Intermediate Crude is currently trading at $45.44 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
