PITT OHIO officially rolls out New York State-based direct service

Following an early July announcement in which it said it planned to kick off a New York State service expansion, effective in mid-August, Pittsburgh-based less-than-truckload (LTL), logistics and warehouse services provider PITT OHIO said today that the expansion is now live.

As previously reported by LM, through its partnership with Teal’s Express, a Watertown, New York-based LTL carrier that has provided LTL service within New York state for more than 96 years, which commenced in 2016, PITT OHIO has served New York state-based shippers. And in July, it took steps to make the relationship permanent, having reached an agreement in principle to acquire Teal’s Express equipment and terminal assets, effective August 13, when Teal’s Express closed operations.

PITT OHIO said it is integrating Teal’s Express employees, equipment, and facilities into its existing operations, which includes terminals in Albany, Buffalo, Utica, and Watertown. PITT OHIO now has 25 terminals through the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and the Northeast.

“We’re excited about this expansion and eager to service this new area and these customers,” said PITT OHIO Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Geoff Muessig in a statement.  “Shippers to and from New York can expect reliable LTL service and a wide range of solutions for the logistics challenges they are facing. In addition to LTL, PITT OHIO has an array of ancillary services including warehousing, drayage, fleet management, and more. This is the first time in 16 years PITT OHIO is adding terminals to our network. Shippers can expect reliable LTL service with extensive equipment capabilities including liftgates, which we know is important to these shippers.  Our Heat Track solution is the most comprehensive Freeze Protection service in the industry powered by 1300 heated trailers. With future enhancements into and out of New York, customers can expect PITT OHIO will continue to be best in the Northeast.”

The company also said that Ross Express, PITT OHIO’s sister company, will continue to provide a similar LTL service between New England and New York state.

Muessig recently told LM that the Pitt Ohio Transportation Group companies—PITT OHIO, Dohrn Transfer, Ross, and US Special Delivery—are now able to provide all points regional and inter-regional LTL service from Maine to Virginia and from New Jersey to Nebraska.

“Expansion to upstate NY enhances PITT OHIO’s value proposition shippers that require excellent service and coverage in the Northeast,” said Muessig. “Previously, PITT OHIO has partnered with Teals to provide two-day service between New York state and the middle Atlantic states. In the coming months, PITT OHIO will enhance this LTL service offering by adding next day lanes and enhanced protect from freeze service and liftgate delivery capability.”
