The pending acquisition of Chippenham, UK-based Wincanton, a supply chain solutions services provider across myriad vertical markets, by Greenwich, Conn.-based global contract logistics services provider GXO Logistics appears to remain on track, according to a “scheme of arrangement” recently issued by Wincanton.

Challenging market conditions on various fronts, for freight transportation brokers and intermediaries, were the main themes of the new edition of the “3PL Market Report Fourth Quarter 2023, which was issued this week by the Alexandria, Va.-based Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA).

The company said that this business unit now has more than $200 million euro ($218.2 million USD) in freight under management and is on track for $2 billion ($2.18 billion USD) by 2028.

Following a previous announcement that Greenwich, Conn.-based global contract logistics services provider GXO Logistics made a $965 million cash offer to acquire Chippenham, UK-based Wincanton, a supply chain solutions services provider across myriad vertical markets, it appears that Wincanton is receptive to the offer.

Greenwich, Conn.-based global contract logistics services provider GXO Logistics said earlier today it has made an offer to acquire Chippenham, UK-based Wincanton, a supply chain solutions services provider across myriad vertical markets. GXO said it has made a $965 million cash offer for Wincanton.

Total estimated 2023 global 3PL market revenue was off 18.5% annually, coming in at $1.2 trillion. But even with that decline, the firm observed that this tally still represented a 25.3% increase, when compared to pre-pandemic 2019.

CBRE reported that the largest 100 industrial lease transactions in 2023 included 43 deals for 1 million square-feet (MSF) or more, which the firm describes as “megawarehouses.” This fell short of 2022’s record-high 63 deals and 2021’s strong 57 deals tally.  The average size of the top 100 leases came in at 986,744 square-feet, down from 2023’s record 1.07 MSF and the previous record set in 2021, at 1.05 MSF.
