Increasing annual volumes remained intact for carload and intermodal for the week ending September 6, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
Carload volumes were up 1.4 percent at 300,388 which was ahead of the week ending September 6 at 286,002 and below the week ending August 30 at 305,371.
Intermodal volume for the week ending September 13 was up 5 percent at 279,052 trailers and containers, which topped the week ending September 6 at 239,142, and the week ending August 30 at 273,458.
Of the ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR, six were up annually for the week ending September 13. Petroleum and petroleum products were up 29.9 percent, and nonmetallic minerals were up 9.7 percent. Coal dipped 5.4 percent.
For the first 37 weeks of 2014, carloads are up 3.5 percent annually at 10,718,782 and intermodal is up 5.6 percent at 9,522,482 trailers and containers.
