The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported that rail carload and intermodal volumes for the week ending December 13 both saw annual gains.
Carloads were up 12.1 percent at 312,271, ahead of the week ending December 6 at 311,955 and the week ending November 29 at 271,659.
Intermodal at 280,337 containers and trailers saw a 4.5 percent annual gain, topping the weeks ending December 6 and November 29 at 268,153 and 220,873, respectively.
All ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR were up annually for the week ending December 13, with nonmetallic minerals up 28.8 percent and metallic ores and metals up 24.4 percent.
For the first 50 weeks of 2014, carloads are up 3.8 percent annually at 14,616,786 and intermodal is up 5.2 percent at 13,042,623 trailers and containers.
