The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported that rail carload and intermodal volumes for the week ending February 7 were mixed.
U.S. Carloads were up 4.7 percent annually at 273,648, which was below the week ending January 31 at 298,568 and the week ending January 24 at 294,738.
Intermodal at 237,915 containers and trailers was down 3.3 percent compared to the same period a year ago, and trailed the 249,738 from the week ending January 31 and the 253,317 from the week ending January 24.
Eight of the ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR were up annually for the week ending February 7, with grain up 15.9 percent, and nonmetallic minerals up 8.7 percent.
On a year-to-date basis, carloads are up 5.4 percent at 1,434,490, and intermodal is flat at 1,242,982 intermodal units.
