FedEx Trade Networks formally rolls out CrossBorder services

CrossBorder is the former Bongo International, a provider of cross border enablement technologies and solutions, whom FedEx acquired in December 2014. FedEx said that this announcement reflects its investment in expanding its international e-commerce offerings.

FedEx Trade Networks, the global forwarding arm of FedEx, said this week that it has formally rolled out its FedEx CrossBorder offering.

CrossBorder is the former Bongo International, a provider of cross border enablement technologies and solutions, whom FedEx acquired in December 2014. FedEx said that this announcement reflects its investment in expanding its international e-commerce offerings.

FedEx CrossBorder provides various services, including e-commerce technology solutions that enable e-tailers to navigate common cross-border selling challenges —such as regulatory compliance, secure payment processing, multi-currency pricing, or credit card fraud protection— and offers access to e-commerce shoppers around the globe, according to FedEx.

And it explained that FedEx CrossBorder e-commerce solutions are able to work within a business’ existing website and shopping cart platform for a secure and integrated checkout experience that allows e-tailers to maintain their brand identity and customer experience with the opportunity to reach new customers in more than 200 countries and territories, with more than 80 currencies accepted, 15 payment options and 9 language options.

“FedEx CrossBorder offers businesses the opportunity to create a more localized global e-commerce shopping experience, helping them move their business forward. With our international technology solutions, business customers have the opportunity to: generate a higher conversion rate on their e-commerce site, overcome international e-commerce sales challenges including localization, multiple payment options, total landed cost, compliance fraud and operational/shipping challenges, onboarding and implementation and extend market reach – including reaching out to consumers in areas of the world previously out of reach to them and expanding internationally without building new infrastructure,” said Chip Hull, vice president of FedEx CrossBorder.

When asked to provide some examples of how FedEx CrossBorder works, Hull noted it has a customizable solution designed to fit the needs of e-commerce merchants, helping them to expand internationally.

“Merchants also maintain control of the customer experience and their brand identity, and the implementation of FedEx CrossBorder Checkout and FedEx CrossBorder Export is made easier with pre-built shopping cart plug-ins,” he said. With internationally enabled technologies and solutions, FedEx CrossBorder helps merchants and consumers conduct international e-commerce.”

As for future plans for FedEx CrossBorder, Hull said that the international trade industry is evolving alongside global commerce and technology, coupled with global e-commerce growing across a variety of regions and countries and online buying behavior currently representing over $1 trillion in sales per year.

“We will continue to see the international trade industry evolve alongside global commerce and technology,” he said. “FedEx CrossBorder is at the forefront of the competitive and fast-changing global e-commerce industry, providing solutions that meet the growing demands of our customers.”

Hull also stressed that FedEx CrossBorder is built on the technology of Bongo International, but with three key developments:

  • Flexibility – the FedEx network can handle high volumes and expand into new markets;
  • Scalable – access to resources including a significantly larger global sales team, marketing and R&D; and
  • Access – more transportation options, which offer customers more choices and price-points for meeting their needs, all managed by FedEx as well as its wide global footprint
